Airports: Shiner is located nearabout the same distance from San Antonio and Austin. Either airport is easy and both are about an hour's drive from Shiner. We have some suggestions below for things to do in both areas, in case that helps you decide.
Ground Transportation: Once you have landed, the only way to get to Shiner is by car. We aim to do several airport runs on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning, so let us know in the RSVP form if you would like our drivers to pick you up!
Doors will open at 1:30 pm at Saints Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church, and close at 2:00 pm SHARP.
We will be celebrating with a reception at Wied Hall, located 7 miles east on Highway 90 Alt.
Doors open at 4:30 pm, and dinner will be served at 6:30 pm.
If you find yourself with some downtime, we have suggestions for things to do!
In Shiner:
In Gonzales:
While we can't predict the weather quite yet, South Texas is warm even in December. Expect lows in the 40s and highs in the 60s-70s. For the ceremony and reception, dress code is Western Formal. Acceptable dress for women includes cocktail dresses, church dresses, or sundresses. For men, a suit and tie or sport coat and clean jeans.
Shiner is a tiny town, with some fantastic, well-maintained AirBnBs. The Shiner Country Inn is clean, cozy, and conveniently located in town, but has limited availability. If you are still looking, we recommend staying in the nearby town of Gonzales. Here are our picks:
We have secured hotel blocks at the Garner Hotel and the Alcalde Hotel.
If you are deciding which airport is right for you, here are some things to do in the two nearby cities:
In San Antonio:
The city is famous for the Riverwalk, a beautiful area of shops and restaurants. For more kid-friendly entertainment, San Antonio has Sea World and Six Flags Fiesta Texas. And how could we forget the Alamo?
In Austin:
Austin is known for its art and music scene. It has the reputation of being different from every other part of Texas. There are great bike trails (and plenty of places to rent bikes), many many art museums, a great foodie scene (both food trucks and restaurants), lots of street art, and of course the state capital building.
